Our Backstory
Hello fellow pup lovers! I’m Amy, founder and CEO of Gunnel Pups, a company committed to delivering classic long-lasting dog gear for you and your pup’s adventures on the water.
The idea for Gunnel Pups was born out of my love for my English cream golden retriever Annie and her littermate and sister, Bridie.
Annie and Bridie spent a lot of time together in the ocean, on the beach, and playing (or sleeping) on the boat. They also enjoyed biting each other’s faces (a sister thing) and spent time rolling in smelly seaweed, and frolicking in pools, ponds, lakes, rivers, and muddy puddles.
I became frustrated when…
Annie and Bridie ruined their dog collars after a couple of weekends in the water. The fabric faded quickly, the hardware rusted, and the collars often smelled.
I knew there had to be a better way to create dog collars to meet my high expectations: ones that are beautiful, classy, and easy to clean but also able to withstand harsh conditions like sunshine, saltwater, chlorine, or just plain ol’ dirty water.
After three short years filled with an unquantifiable amount of love and joy with Annie, she tragically passed in September 2023 from congenital kidney disease. While I will always miss her, I’m proud of the path she set me on, one that inspired me to step out of my comfort zone and create something I hope you and your pup(s) will enjoy.
